Volunteer/Internship Opportunity: Promotion of Volunteerism and Peer Education

We welcome you to take part in the “Promotion of Volunteerism and Peer Education” project, organized by an initiative group of 6 people and financed by the US Alumni Association of Armenia (USAAA) and the US Embassy in Armenia. The project is also supported by WIYU (World Independent Youth Union) NGO and Cooperation for Development NGO.

“Promotion of Volunteerism and Peer Education” aims to help school and preschool… children, who have serious health problems and are therefore required to spend several months under the direct supervision of doctors at the hospital. Around fifty young volunteers of different professions will attend partner hospitals to contribute to these children’s academic and mental development. The program will give young people the opportunity to be more active as community members and to gain practical experience of their academic knowledge. Successful volunteers will be granted a certificate by USAAA, the US Embassy and “World Independent Youth Union” NGO.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: “Promotion of Volunteerism and Peer Education” is a one-month academic and social project which is organized by an initiative group of 6 people. It is financed by USAAA (US Alumni Association of Armenia) and the US Embassy in Armenia and is supported by WIYU (World Independent Youth Union) NGO and Cooperation for Development NGO. The aim of the project is to help school and preschool age children who have serious health problems and have to stay at the hospital for several months. These children don’t have an opportunity to attend school, to be involved in different social activities and are not integrated in community life. Around fifty young volunteers of different professions will attend partner hospitals to contribute to these children’s academic and mental development, to help them adapt to hospital conditions more easily, to organize their free time, to encourage self development and assist them with future career choice by sharing their own experiences. In this way we hope to easy up the discomforts of the children’s condition. On the other hand it will promote volunteerism and encourage young people to be more active as community members and to gain practical experience of their academic knowledge.

PROJECT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

  • To promote tolerance in society
  • To provide youth volunteers with an opportunity to gain practical experience
  • To help children adapt to hospital conditions
  • To contribute to  their social integration
  • To provide psychological assistance (with the help of volunteer psychologists)
    • To assist their academic achievements
    • To help with their further career choice
    • To provide them with new skills, thus developing their creativity

Inner city transportation cost of the volunteers will be partially reimbursed. Volunteers will also be provided with necessary supplies (stationary, books, games, DVD player, CDs/DVDs for English classes, etc.).

REQUIRMENTS:

  • Young people/students (preferable future teachers, doctors, psychologists, artists, etc)
  • Ready to work with children with special needs
  • To work individually, as well as a team member
  • To attend preparation trainings
  • To be ready to sign an agreement on rights and responsibilities
  • To be able to fulfill all the requirements related to the project implementation.
